Week 7
Quiz 5 solutions are posted.
We are almost finished with the additional force topics not covered on the first exam (Friction and some on circular motion).
We will start discussing topics on Work and Energy. Suggested problems. Start the reading and be looking ahead to quiz6.
Look ahead at syllabus. Note after ch. 9 we will discuss some of ch. 12 on gravitation SECTIONS 12.1 AND 12.2, then ch. 10 and 11.
Walker 2nd Edition Ch. 7 Problems 5,8,15, 18,19,27,34,40,48 Solutions Ch. 7.
Walker 2nd Edition Ch. 8 problems 2,10,12,13,19,20,24,27,33 Solutions Ch. 8
As we get through work/energy concepts ...and then get to momentum, be looking at the problem below.
Big picture comments. As you start preparing for the next exam, topics are frictional force, circular motion, Work/Energy, and Momentum...Will see if the ch. 12 sections on gravity get there. We will narrow as we go. Note that I can cover friction as a force that does work.
When doing ch. 9 momentum/collisions we will stick to one dimensional collisions, most of the work will be on "inelastic collisions" so we will be skipping some of the harder derivations in that chapter (may discuss though).
Next topic will be momentum/collisions. Ch. 9 problems 4,10,11,19,25,29,67
After that ...OUT OF ORDER...first two sections from Ch. 12 Section 12.1 and 12.2 on Gravitation. Ch. 12 problems 8,14,16,19
