Start reading Ch. 19 of the text (either 2nd or 3rd edtion)

I have my own notes posted as pdf's----these are notes from last spring.   As we go through these in class I may modify and repost.  So keep an eye out for any changes.  They are posted for your convenience. But it's up to you to keep up with the changes (up to date).

I have some chapter solutions posted for problem I "suggest".   Look at the solutions to obtain the problem numbers.  Those are all for 2nd edition walker.  A problem correlation table is linked for 2nd and 3rd editions (sorry about that---publisher issues).

Welcome to PHYS1112

New items.   We will be using WebCT/Vista.  To log into WebCT use your standard campus username that you would use for pipeline or other resources (see me if you do not know).  Your password should be your default (I think your six digit birthdate)  which you will need to change.

1)    Once in WebCT:  Take quiz1.  Other quizzes will become available throughout the semester.  You may submit answers only once using the "finish" button.  In order to force grading you should make sure you "view submissions" when given the option.  Quiz1 has the answers as "given" so be careful.  It is just a check to see that things are working.

2)  We will have online discussions about problems.  This system (WebCT/VISTA)    There will be a place for you to enter into the discussion.  You are expected to participate at least once in each folder (see the dates).  This means ask or answer questions regarding physics problems.  "Hello, here is my   post" WILL NOT COUNT.  You must post content.

3)    PHYSLET worksheets and other simulations.  If you do not have the phsylet workbook or CD then see me, or use the link from my web page.  We will be working with simulations.    I may display these in class and or display other similar quality simulations.  I will link and refer to these from the assignments page.

ALL PROBLEMS ARE LISTED FROM WALKER 2ND EDITION.  PROBLEM CORRELATIONS ARE POSTED---YOU MUST GO LOOK UP.   SOME PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED OR MODIFIED. 

THE POINT IS TO PRACTICE ON LOTS OF PROBLEMS. 

Basic topics for Ch. 19  Properties of Charge.  Review of vector addition.  Coulomb's law.  Electric field measurement, E field calculation using Coulomb's law, Electric Field pictures.
